SSSNB — Shree Shyam Sudhama Nishan Bhandar

Nishan & Yatra — Devotee FAQ

॥ Jai Shree Shyam ॥

Who can carry a Nishan?

Anyone with devotion (shraddha) for Shyam Baba can carry a Nishan — there is no restriction by age or gender. Many carry it to fulfil a mannat, others simply out of love. Children often carry small handheld sizes.

Do I have to walk (padyatra) to carry it?

Walking is a cherished tradition, especially during the Falgun Mela, but it is not compulsory. You can carry your Nishan however you reach Khatu — on foot, by vehicle, or set it at your home mandir. The bhaav (feeling) matters most.

Which colour Nishan should I choose?

There is no wrong colour. Many devotees choose the deep Shyam blue or saffron; others match a vow or simply what calls to them. See the Nishan guide for more.

What size for a group padyatra?

Groups usually carry a tall pole (S5–S6, up to 18ft) so it's visible over the crowd, plus smaller ones for members. Our size guide maps sizes to use; for anything larger or special, a custom (S7) Nishan is made to order.

What do I do with the Nishan after the yatra?

After offering darshan, many devotees keep the Nishan at their home mandir as a blessing, or pass it to family. Treat it with respect; if worn out, retire it respectfully (e.g., immerse or keep wrapped clean) as you would any sacred article.

When is the Falgun Mela?

It falls in the bright fortnight of the Hindu month of Falgun (February–March); the exact dates follow the panchang each year. We list current scheduled windows on our festival calendar.
